About Us – Our Story
Maintech Computers started as a passion project long before it became the trusted IT business it is today. Paul, our founder, began experimenting with computers at the young age of 11. From purchasing two broken desktops from a horse-and-cart seller, he managed to build one working PC — a skill that would ignite a lifelong love for technology. Back then, RAM was measured in kilobytes, and installing games from floppy disks on an old orange-and-black TV monitor was an everyday adventure.
Over the years, Paul progressed through Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and Windows 98, spending hours formatting and reinstalling systems just for fun. He repaired neighbors’ PCs for pocket money and eventually built his first gaming PC, experiencing the evolution of Windows XP, 2000, Millennium, Vista, and Windows 7. High school saw him spending all free time in the school computer lab, learning from peers and refining his skills.
By his teens, Paul turned passion into business, operating as a sole proprietor under what is now Maintech Computers. With support from his parents and grandparents, he visited clients, attended flea markets, distributed flyers, and placed small adverts — building relationships with many clients who are still with us today. After gaining experience at several IT companies, including Pinnacle Africa, and even working abroad in the USA, he returned to register Maintech Computers as a PTY with his wife, Melissa.
From 2012 to March 2023, the business operated out of a small shared retail space with Wynica Stationers in Bothasig, providing both IT repairs and walk-in service. In April 2023, we moved into our own shopfront, continuing to provide professional, reliable IT solutions to our local community.
Maintech Computers has grown alongside Paul’s life — through marriage, raising two school-aged children, and building lasting relationships with clients — always guided by a love for technology, service, and problem-solving.
